Whether you are a patient or a visitor, we understand that being in a hospital can sometimes be overwhelming. What to expect:

  • You will receive the information you need to make informed decisions about your care and to help you understand our care processes.
  • We invite you to take part in decisions about your care. You are an essential part of the care team and are entitled to ask questions and voice any concerns.
  • You will know the names and professions of all those who come in contact with you.
  • We believe in making sure that when you leave our hospital you understand your medications and the plan of care put in place, including follow-up appointments.
  • If you would like to invite friends or family in your care process, let us know; they are an important part of your care team.

The Care Team:

You and your Family/Friends: ask any questions about your care at any point during your stay/visit. Your family members and loved ones can stay by your side 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This approach creates a welcoming environment that enables family and caregivers to participate more in patient care by providing emotional support, being present for physician rounds and helping with transitions in care.

Physicians: The Family Physicians, locums, medical Residents and students of the Goldcorp Red Lake Regional Medical Center  provide 24 hour emergency, acute and palliative healthcare to patients at the Red Lake MCM Hospital. Medical residents and students may observe or take part in your care depending on their level of training and always under the supervision of a Family Physician. 

Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses: In Ontario, nursing is one profession with two categories; Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) and Registered Nurse (RN).  Registered nurses (RNs) have extensive knowledge in their field, which allows them to help patients with more complex health issues while RPNs have greater autonomy when caring for a client with less complexity.  There are areas of overlap between the two categories, and there are differences as well based on entry-level, knowledge and competencies; combined they bring a wealth of nursing skills, knowledge and judgment in various areas of healthcare.

Diagnostics Technologists and Technicians: Medical Laboratory Technologists, Diagnostic Imaging Technologists and Ultra-sonographers, are regulated healthcare professionals.  They provide on-site laboratory testing, x-rays and ultrasonography with a referral from a physician or nurse practitioner. We are limited to the type of tests we can perform on site and some tests must be referred-out to other providers affecting results wait-times. 

Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians: Under pharmacists supervision, our on-staff pharmacy technicians are able to supply medications, assemble medicines for prescriptions, and provide information to patients and other healthcare professionals about medications and pharmacy requirements. The pharmacist will ensure medications are being used appropriately to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist: our staff are primary health care professionals with a significant role in health promotion and treatment of injury and disease for inpatients or post-surgery outpatients. They combine their in-depth knowledge of the body and how it works with specialized hands-on clinical skills to assess, diagnose and treat symptoms of illness, injury or disability.

Mental Health and Addiction Case Workers: through the integration of services with the Red Lake & Ear Falls Community Counselling & Addiction Services, specialized case workers and therapists provide assessments, counselling, crisis intervention and support, client directed goal planning, client advocacy, linkage to services, family support and education, skills development and referrals to other services.

Social Workers and Community Care Access Center Care Coordinator: we have built partnerships with other community service providers to ensure you get the care needed during or after your hospital visit.
